In many situations like in the song Every Breath You Take by Sting, the songwriter stacks perfect fifths one on top of the other creating a nice wide open harmony. In the case of Dave Matthews Band Crash Into Me the stacked fifths are distributed in a way that makes us work on our position playing skillset.

Dave Matthews Band Crash Into Me

This has always been one of my favorite tunes to play on the guitar. I can remember listening to this song while working in the bike shop. It was fresh, and new, and exciting – and it still sounds that way today. Once the song gets practiced enough it will become second nature and the moving bassline under the static high E and B strings will become increasingly separate and provide an interesting counterpoint.
